Mayor Anderson and City Recorder Szilagyi attempted to contact Postmaster Atwood at The Dalles Post Office regarding these issues but did not receive a response. City staff were subsequently able to work with representatives from Senator Merkley’s office to obtain a response and additional clarification from USPS.
The most recent information provided through USPS’s Congressional Liaison states that USPS will not install a Cluster Box Unit (CBU) at the Mosier Senior Center, which had been proposed as a potential mail delivery location. USPS has further stated that it will not expand mail delivery routes within Mosier. According to USPS, its universal service obligation has been met through the availability of Group E Boxes (free PO Boxes) at the Mosier Post Office.
While this update is disappointing, efforts to seek a resolution continue. Staff from the offices of Senator Jeff Merkley and Congressman Cliff Bentz remain engaged and are working with City representatives to advocate for improved mail service options for Mosier residents.
