Pacific Power customers in Mosier, Oregon, have experienced several wildfire-related outages. They have shared the following information to help keep our community informed and provide additional information about resources.
Enhanced Safety Settings
As wildfire season continues, Pacific Power customers may experience additional outages related to enhanced safety settings.
- These settings will de-energize power lines within fractions of a second if they are contacted by debris, wildlife or strong winds. This greatly reduces the likelihood of equipment emitting sparks that could cause a wildfire.
- Since these outages are driven by a physical event, advanced notification is unfortunately not possible.
- Power will remain off until Pacific Power crews are able to visually inspect the line and ensure it’s safe to re-energize.
- Customers on these settings have an increased potential for outages, and these outages may last longer than normal as Pacific Power field crews work to patrol the lines before safely restoring power.
- More information can be found on their website at: PacificPower.net/Settings
Continued improvements
- Pacific Power installed new protective devices this summer to improve system reliability and sectionalize outages, reducing the likelihood that an outage would affect the entire city. The new devices are now operational.
- Pacific Power installed communication equipment that will help to more quickly identify and locate outages, including those associated with proactive fire-prevention power shutoffs. This technology is expected to reduce outage response and restoration times.
- Pacific Power is actively pursuing funding to continue upgrading and improving the electrical system serving Mosier.
